Hyundai Motor Türkiye will strengthen its IONIQ 3 investment with a new battery plant to be established at its İzmit factory. The factory, which will be realized within the scope of a total investment of 715 million Euros, with production planned at 27,000 units this year and over 40,000 units next year, will initially provide employment for more than 300 people.
Hyundai Motor Türkiye announced that it will support its planned investment for the IONIQ 3 model, which will begin mass production in August, with a new battery assembly plant to be established at its Izmit factory.
715 MILLION EURO INVESTMENT
As part of this investment, Hyundai Motor Türkiye will bring together battery cells with advanced automation systems in partnership with Hyundai Mobis. According to the company's statement, 55 million euros of the total 715 million euro investment has been allocated to the battery plant.
PRODUCTION TARGETS SET
As the investment efforts reach the final stage, it is anticipated that 27,000 vehicles will be produced this year and over 40,000 vehicles next year. The NMC battery cells used in the vehicles will be sourced from Hungary, while the short-range LFP batteries will be supplied from China. The new facility is intended to create a significant infrastructure not only for the IONIQ 3 model, which will enter mass production in August, but also for the electric and hybrid vehicles to be produced in the future.
HUNDREDS OF JOBS TO BE PROVIDED
While the first phase of the investment plans to provide employment for more than 300 people, it also aims to contribute to the development of the technical knowledge and experience needed in the field of electric vehicle production.
30,000 SQUARE METER FACILITY
In the battery plant, established on a total area of 30,000 square meters, 27 robots will be operational. It was stated that the battery packs ready for vehicle production will be prepared largely with automation and without human contact. The IONIQ 3, Hyundai's second domestically produced electric model in Turkey, is planned to start rolling off the assembly lines in August and go on sale in September with two different battery and power options.
"IMPORTANT FOR THE TURKISH AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY"
In the statement, Murat Berkel, General Manager of Sales, Marketing and After-Sales at Hyundai Motor Türkiye, reminded that 3.3 million vehicles have been produced since 1997 at the Izmit factory, Hyundai's first overseas production facility. Stating that they are very proud to announce the new battery investment, Berkel emphasized that the investment is important for both Turkey and the Turkish automotive industry. Berkel stated that this investment will make significant contributions to Hyundai's growth in Turkey.
