Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced the discovery of more than 7.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the South Pars region in the south of the country. Paknejad stated that the amount of gas discovered could supply one phase of South Pars for 15 years.
Speaking to Iranian state television, Paknejad said the newly discovered amount of natural gas is approximately 7.5 trillion cubic feet, and considering a recovery rate of over 72 percent, about 5.7 trillion cubic feet of gas can be produced.
"CAN SUPPLY NATURAL GAS FOR 15 YEARS"
The Iranian Minister stated that the discovered gas amount is equivalent to the volume of natural gas that a phase in South Pars could provide for 15 years, and noted that the new reserve will make a significant contribution to Iran's energy resources.
The Minister stated that the discovered gas has the characteristic of "sweet gas" (which can be transported directly without processing or with very little treatment), and said this will make it possible to reduce the costs of both field development and operation activities.
The Iranian Minister also reported that in addition to the discovered natural gas, a significant amount of gas condensate was found, and expressed that these resources will bring tens of billions of dollars in new economic value to the country, in addition to the value of the gas itself.
