The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) is making a significant change in its military structure in the Jordan Valley as a result of a reassessment of security threats. The IDF has accelerated preparations for the newly established 96th Division to replace the current military unit responsible for this strategic area. In this context, the 96th Division is expected to be operational shortly.

Known as the "Eastern Division" or "Gilad Division," the 96th Division was initially set to begin its duties on August 1. However, following developments in regional security conditions, this date has been moved forward. According to the latest assessments, increasing threats and security risks along the border have necessitated the earlier completion of military preparations. The division will operate under the command of Brigadier General Oren Simcha.

As part of the new structure, the Jordan Valley Regional Brigade, which is currently responsible for the security of the Jordan Valley, will come under the command of the 96th Division. This brigade will continue to operate in the region but will now serve as part of a larger structure. Additionally, a reserve infantry brigade, called to duty in case of emergency, will also be part of the division. This unit will be kept on standby to enhance rapid response capabilities when necessary.

According to the IDF's plan, the 96th Division will be deployed along a wide front starting from the Syria-Jordan-Israel border triangle in northern Israel, extending down to Ramon Airport in the south. This area is considered strategically important for security and is also seen as a sensitive zone in terms of border crossings.

With this change, Israel aims to establish a stronger and more organized military presence along its Jordan border. IDF officials state that the division will be supported by advanced technologies, modern weapon systems, and experienced commanders. This way, a quicker response to potential threats will be possible, and border security will be ensured more effectively.

The commencement of the new division's operations is seen not only as a change in military structure but also as an indication that Israel's security policy in the region is being reshaped.
