Israeli media: The army prepares for a long stay in southern Lebanon

Israel's state television KAN claimed that the Israeli army is preparing for a long-term stay in southern Lebanon. In the region where attacks continue despite ceasefire agreements, it is assessed that a potential military escalation could also affect Hezbollah and Iran, creating new pressures on the agreement reached between the US and Iran.

According to a report by Israel's state television KAN, citing security sources, the Israeli army is preparing for a long-term military presence in southern Lebanon.

The report stated that the final decision on whether the army will remain in the region will be made by political authorities, while suggesting that Israel keeps its operational options against Lebanon on the table.

ATTACKS CONTINUE DESPITE CEASEFIRE

KAN's report conveyed that despite the agreement reached between the US and Iran, the Israeli army continues its preparations for any possible scenario that may arise in Lebanon. It was also noted that Israel's continued attacks, particularly targeting the country's south, drew attention.

The Israeli army had targeted numerous areas in southern Lebanon with intense airstrikes launched on March 2, and had taken control of some points. The Lebanese government announced that the number of displaced people due to the attacks exceeded 1 million.

CEASEFIRES EXTENDED BACK TO BACK

US President Donald Trump announced on April 24 that the temporary ceasefire, which took effect on April 17, had been extended for another three weeks.

Following negotiations mediated by the US in May, the parties decided to extend the ceasefire for an additional 45 days, and in a statement made on June 3, it was indicated that an agreement was reached on a more comprehensive ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.

Under the agreement, Hezbollah was required to completely halt its attacks and withdraw its forces south of the Litani River. Hezbollah, however, stated that it did not accept these conditions.

DEATH TOLL EXCEEDS 3,800

According to the latest data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, 3,826 people have lost their lives in attacks carried out by Israel since March 2. The continuation of attacks in the region despite ceasefire announcements raises questions about the possibility of lasting peace.

COULD IT POSITION A RISK FOR THE IRAN-US AGREEMENT?

According to experts, Israel's continued military activities in Lebanon are not seen as a development that directly nullifies the agreement reached between the US and Iran, but they are among the factors that could increase the fragility of the deal.

Particularly since Hezbollah is an Iranian-backed structure, a new escalation on the Lebanese front could harden Tehran's position in the region again. This situation could damage the diplomatic ground recently established between Washington and Tehran.

Nevertheless, it is assessed that at the current stage, Israel's preparations in Lebanon are primarily for security and deterrence purposes, while the agreement between Iran and the US proceeds on nuclear and regional security topics. Therefore, although developments do not directly threaten the agreement in the short term, a potential wave of conflict on the ground could once again alter regional balances.
