The claim that a political ban was requested for 139 detained students, including Berkay Gezgin, the architect of the phrase "Everything will be very beautiful," during protests against the arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu has created a stir. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated in its announcement regarding the matter that the news reported by some media outlets is false and manipulative in nature.
Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü made an important claim regarding detained students. Öztürk wrote that an indictment has been prepared for the 139 students who were arrested on March 15. In his article, Öztürk noted that a political ban was requested for the students.
THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE DENIED
While the claim, which was also reported by some media outlets, caused a wide public reaction, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated that the news regarding the students, who were prosecuted for participating in unauthorized demonstrations following corruption and terrorism investigations against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), particularly about the application of political bans, was manipulative in nature.
"THE NEWS IS FALSE AND MANIPULATIVE"
In a statement from the Chief Prosecutor's Office, it was emphasized that the news claiming that a political ban was specifically requested for the students who were prosecuted for recent social events is false and manipulative.
The statement included, "As is known, according to Article 53 of the Turkish Penal Code No. 5237, measures to deprive individuals of certain rights specified in the same article are applied without any request as a natural consequence of conviction in all intentionally committed crimes, regardless of the distinction of the crime, in our penal and execution system."
