In Istanbul, where a 6.2 magnitude earthquake and more than 50 aftershocks have occurred, measures continue to be taken. Most recently, the Istanbul Governorship announced on its social media account that mosques, schoolyards, and sports halls have been opened for the public until further notice.

An earthquake measuring 6.2 occurred in Istanbul at 12:49. While over 50 aftershocks were recorded, 151 people were injured due to panic and jumping from heights.

WARNING NOT TO LOWER YOUR GUARD

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya reported that, according to the scans conducted after the earthquake, there were no collapsed buildings yet, and he warned against lowering the guard in case of possible aftershocks.

MOSQUES, SCHOOL YARDS, AND SPORTS HALLS OPENED FOR SERVICE

The Istanbul Governorship announced on its social media account that mosques, school yards, and sports halls have been opened for citizens until further notice.

The statement from the governorship included the following expressions:

"School yards, sports halls, and our mosques have been opened for the use of our citizens who do not wish to spend the night at home due to the fear of the earthquake."

“Additionally, the restrooms of our schools will also remain open for the use of our citizens until further notice.”

The Red Crescent and AFAD have mobilized all their resources to meet the basic needs of our citizens."
