According to the 2025 death and cause of death statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute, child and infant mortality rates in Sinop have seen a sharp increase; the under-5 mortality rate rose by 182.7 percent in one year.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) announced the 2025 mortality and cause of death statistics.

INCREASED FROM 5.2 PER THOUSAND TO 14.7 PER THOUSAND

Accordingly, a sharp rise was recorded in the under-5 mortality rate in Sinop. The "under-5 mortality rate," which expresses the probability of a child dying within the first five years after birth, rose from 5.2 per thousand in 2024 to 14.7 per thousand in 2025 in Sinop. This increase indicated a remarkable change of 182.7 percent in the rates.

INFANT DEATH COUNT AND RATE ALSO INCREASED

In the same period, the number of infant deaths rose from 8 to 21. The infant mortality rate, which was at 4.7 per thousand in 2024, was recorded as 12.9 per thousand in 2025.

SAME SITUATION IN TOTAL DEATH COUNT

The total number of deaths in the city also increased. The death count, which was 2,287 in 2024, rose to 2,445 in 2025. According to 2024 data, 1,343 of the deceased were men and 1,102 were women. The crude death rate was 10.0 per thousand in 2024, while it became 10.8 per thousand in 2025.

CIRCULATORY SYSTEM DISEASES AT THE TOP

The announced data also included the distribution of selected causes of death in Sinop in 2025. Accordingly, circulatory system diseases ranked first with 37.9 percent of deaths, followed by benign and malignant tumors with 14.8 percent, and respiratory system diseases with 14.7 percent.
