Abdurahman Keleş, a farmer in the Düziçi district of Osmaniye, draws attention with the high yield he obtains from Orange Ruby apricot trees he planted about 7 years ago. Keleş stated that they harvest 250 to 300 kilograms of product per tree and said the variety is in high demand both domestically and for export.
Abdurahman Keleş, who produces apricots on a 10-decare plot in the Düziçi district of Osmaniye, planted Orange Ruby apricot saplings in his orchard about 7 years ago on the recommendation of an agricultural engineer. Keleş noted that the trees began bearing fruit a year after planting and have been yielding regularly for the past 6 years, expressing satisfaction with the harvest.
NEARLY 300 KILOGRAMS PER TREE
Keleş, stating that the trees are now 7 years old and yield between 250 and 300 kilograms per tree, highlighted that the Orange Ruby variety stands out for its high productivity. The farmer noted that this year's effective rainfall positively contributed to production, and the fruit set in the orchard is at a very good level.
"SALES AND MARKET ARE BOTH EXCELLENT"
Keleş, noting that the Orange Ruby apricot attracts interest in both wholesale and retail sales, said, "We planted Orange Ruby apricot saplings in our orchard on the advice of an agriculturist. Our trees are 7 years old and have been yielding for 6 years. In the early years, the yield was at 25-30 percent, but now it has reached full productivity. Sales and the market are both excellent. We can sell both wholesale and retail."
HIGH INTEREST FROM EXPORTERS
Keleş, stating that the apricots are also in demand from abroad, noted that some exporters want to buy the products directly from the orchard. The producer emphasized that the products are sent to both the domestic market and for export, and they are getting returns on their costs and labor.
BECOMING WIDESPREAD IN THE REGION
It was learned that the Orange Ruby apricot variety, known for its early-ripening feature, is increasingly becoming widespread among producers in the region. It was stated that other producers in Düziçi also prefer this variety, and the district has extensive apricot orchards.
