WHO IS İZZET ALTINMEŞE?
Turkish folk music artist İzzet Altınmeşe, whose real name is İzzet Altunmeşe, was born on October 26, 1945, in Diyarbakır.
When İzzet Altınmeşe was just 5 months old, his family migrated from Diyarbakır to Adana due to economic reasons. He worked as a barber for a while. Later, he left barbering and turned to folk songs. In 1963, he started taking Turkish folk music, notation, and singing lessons at the Adana Public Education Center and began stage performances. In 1965, he released his first record.
He served in the military between 1966 and 1968. After returning from military service, he continued his folk music studies in Adana for 2 years. In 1970, he settled in Ankara. In 1972, he became known throughout Turkey with his composition "Biraz Da Bana Gül Kader," which he wrote the lyrics and music for. In 1976, he passed the Ankara Radio Artist Exam. During this period, he continued to work with masters of Turkish folk music such as Nida Tüfekçi, Muhlis Akarsu, Coşkun Güla, İhsan Öztürk, and Musa Eroğlu. In 1977, the folk song "Maden Dağı," which he compiled himself, marked the beginning of his current fame. In 1978, the folk song "Esmerim" became the hit song of the year.
İzzet Altınmeşe has around 100 compilations, and he has pieces with lyrics and music of his own. He has acted in seven feature films. He portrayed the character Alemdar Ağa in the series Eşref Saati.
