THEY WERE KILLED IN THEIR BEDS On the morning of February 14, 2026, known as Valentine's Day, 21-year-old Ukrainian refugee Kateryna Tovmash and 28-year-old U.S. Army personnel Matthew Wade were shot and killed in bed at Tovmash's home in Woodlake, North Carolina.
TRAVELED 800 KILOMETERS FOR MURDER The suspect is alleged to be Tovmash's jealous ex-boyfriend, 25-year-old Caleb Fosnaugh. It was reported that Fosnaugh traveled approximately 500 miles (about 800 kilometers) from his home in Ohio for the attack and unlawfully entered Tovmash's home, where the incident took place.
Caleb Fosnaugh According to the police and the Moore County Sheriff's Office, it was recorded that Fosnaugh entered Tovmash's home and forcibly woke one of the young woman's younger siblings, then shot and killed both Tovmash and Wade while they were in bed.
THE ATTACKER WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY After the massacre, it was announced that the suspect had fled and was being sought by the police as "armed and dangerous." Fosnaugh was later taken into custody in Ohio and arrested on two counts of murder and burglary. Tovmash and her family had fled the war and sought refuge in the USA; Moore County officials are continuing their pursuit of justice following the tragic incident. Relatives of the couple have launched a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe for Tovmash's funeral expenses.
