Jeweler Who Committed a 120 Million Lira Fraud Responds with a Banner

In Mersin, two managers of a jeweler, who is alleged to have defrauded approximately 120 million Turkish lira from 116 customers, have been arrested. Relatives of the arrested managers hung a banner at the jewelry store that read, "We did not want to harm anyone. Due to sudden developments on March 14, 2025, we had to temporarily close. As soon as our conditions improve, the grievances will be resolved as quickly as possible."

The teams of the Fraud Bureau of the Provincial Police Department in Mersin conducted an operation under the coordination of the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, following allegations that a jeweler operating in the central Akdeniz district defrauded customers.

TOOK, SOLD, DID NOT PAY

In the conducted investigation, it was determined that the suspect purchased gold at prices above the market rate, but told customers that he would pay them later, and for the gold sold below the market rate, he also claimed that he would deliver the gold to customers later, thus committing fraud.

120 MILLION LIRA SCAM FROM 116 PEOPLE

It is alleged that the suspect defrauded approximately 120 million lira worth of gold and money from 116 people using this method. Following this, the police carried out an operation and arrested 14 suspects, including jeweler O.B., and seized 7 million lira worth of foreign currency and gold.

2 SUSPECTS ARRESTED

Jeweler O.B. and 2 managers from the company were arrested among the suspects. While one of the 11 suspects was placed under house arrest, 10 employees were released to be tried without detention under judicial control.

Meanwhile, it was learned that a banner was hung by the relatives of the arrested suspects at the jeweler's shop located in Mahmudiye Neighborhood of the central Akdeniz district. The banner stated, "We did not intend to victimise anyone. Due to sudden developments on March 14, 2025, we had to temporarily close. As soon as our conditions improve, the grievances will be resolved as soon as possible." The writings on the banner also caught the attention of citizens passing by the area.
