In Benfica, who beat Gil Vicente 4-1 in the Portuguese Cup quarter-final, the suspension of Jhon Duran's red card ban due to an investigation and his being allowed to play in the match sparked debate. Gil Vicente Head Coach Luis Pinto reacted to the decision, emphasizing that more fair and competitive decisions should be made in the league.

In the Portuguese Cup quarter-final, Benfica beat Gil Vicente 4-1 to book their place in the semi-finals, but more than the victory, it is Jhon Duran's presence on the pitch that is being discussed. The Colombian striker's contribution to the scoreline was overshadowed by the suspension controversy that marked the match.

INVESTIGATION OPENED, SUSPENSION LIFTED

The investigation opened into Jhon Duran, who was expected to be suspended due to the red card he received in stoppage time in the league away match against Santa Clara, took the process to a different dimension. According to reports in the local press, due to the ongoing investigation, the player's red card suspension was temporarily lifted and he was allowed to play in the Gil Vicente match. It was stated that the clarification of the investigation could take up to 15 days.

GIL VICENTE CAMP REACTS

Speaking after the match, Gil Vicente head coach Luis Pinto reacted to the decision and said, "I was surprised that Duran was in the squad. We also hope that our player Espigares, who was carded, can play in the Guimaraes match, because we would like to have a player whose suspension has ended. If we want a fairer and more competitive league, we must review these attitudes. The lifting of the red card suspension one day before the match makes many things questionable."
