A lawsuit has been filed against journalist Enver Aysever, who was arrested as a result of an investigation due to statements made in a video published on YouTube, on charges of "inciting or insulting the public to hatred and enmity," with a request for up to 3 years in prison. Aysever is set to appear before a judge in the coming days.
As a result of the investigation launched due to the statements made in a video published on YouTube, an indictment was prepared against journalist Enver Aysever, requesting up to 3 years in prison for the crime of "inciting or insulting the public to hatred and hostility."
In the indictment prepared by the Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that an investigation was initiated ex officio following Aysever's words in a video published on December 10, 2025, after he was arrested on December 11, 2025.
HIS STATEMENT WAS INCLUDED
The indictment included Aysever's statement. Accordingly, Aysever claimed that a segment of the video in question was cut and published on social media, arguing that this was done deliberately to target him, and stated that if the entire video were examined, it would be understood that he filmed it based on some statements made by Ekrem İmamoğlu's father, Hasan İmamoğlu.
Stating that it is impossible to insult a community consisting of 70% conservatives and nationalists, considering Turkey's sociological reality, Aysever explained that he did not act with the intention of insulting right-wing individuals and that he might have used some incorrect expressions due to the excitement of the live broadcast. Aysever also mentioned that when Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained, he made statements such as, "Thieves must be prosecuted, and the CHP should not support this," and that he was lynched by trolls from the opposition due to this.
"HE MEANT 60-70% OF THE TURKISH SOCIETY"
The indictment stated, "It has been understood that the guilty, immoral, and the political parties that he claims engage in religious and nationalism trading mentioned in Aysever's words refer to the Democratic Party, Justice Party, Motherland Party, AK Party, Welfare Party, Virtue Party, Nationalist Movement Party, and similar parties that received fewer votes, as well as their administrators and voters who support these parties, even if they have not come to power, and that the insulting words in question were directed at 60-70% of the Turkish society, although the times change."
REQUEST FOR UP TO 3 YEARS IN PRISON
In the indictment, it was emphasized that the defendant exceeded the limits of press freedom with these words and committed the act of "publicly inciting the public to hatred and hostility." It was requested that Aysever be punished with imprisonment of 1 to 3 years for the crime of "inciting or insulting the public to hatred and hostility." The indictment prepared by the prosecutor's office was accepted by the Küçükçekmece 30th Criminal Court of First Instance to which it was sent.
