Journalist Nevşin Mengü, who was detained for conducting an interview with the leader of the terrorist organization YPG/PYD, Salih Muslim, has been released under judicial control.
The journalist Nevşin Mengü, who was detained in the morning due to an investigation initiated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding her interview with Salih Müslim, the leader of the terrorist organization YPG/PYD wanted by a red notice, was released after her procedures were completed with a travel ban abroad.
RELEASED UNDER JUDICIAL CONTROL
In a statement made by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the following expressions were included:
"On December 13, 2024, regarding the interview published by Nevşin Mengü, which included statements praising the terrorist organization and its actions, with Salih Müslim, who is the leader of the YPG/PYD terrorist organization and wanted by a red notice, an investigation was initiated ex officio by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. The suspect was detained this morning, and after her defense was taken, it was decided by the on-duty magistrate court to apply a judicial control measure in the form of a 'travel ban' abroad. This is announced to the public."
SHE EXPLAINED WHY SHE DELETED THE PROGRAM WITH THESE WORDS
Nevşin Mengü explained why she deleted her interview with Salih Müslim, saying, "As you know, I just returned from Syria. There are preparations for a new era after Assad. While entering this new era, I wanted to get Salih Müslim's assessment, who stated that he wanted to talk to the foreign press about Turkey. However, I was warned by my lawyer friends that this interview could fall under the scope of praising crime and criminals according to the Turkish Penal Code. Therefore, I removed the said interview. I want to prevent misunderstandings."
