A suspect entered a jewelry store in London, the capital of England, posing as a customer and attempted to steal a diamond engagement ring worth approximately 35,000 pounds (1.5 million Turkish Lira) by swallowing it. When the shop owners, who noticed the situation on security cameras, blocked the exit, the cornered thief was forced to vomit the ring and hand it over.
An extraordinary heist attempt straight out of a movie took place in Hatton Garden, the historic jewelry district in London, the capital of England. A suspect entered a jewelry store named "Elegance Jewellers," which has been operating in the area for 30 years, and tried to steal a fortune-worthy diamond ring by swallowing it.
According to obtained information, the unidentified suspect entered the store disguised as a customer and spent a full two hours examining various pieces of jewelry to distract the staff. Finally, when the man said he would decide on the purchase the next day and attempted to leave, his nervous movements caught the attention of the store personnel. Employees checking the display case noticed that a large princess-cut diamond engagement ring with a platinum band was missing.
Initially denying the accusations harshly, the suspect claimed his innocence by demanding a search of his pockets. The store management then reviewed the retrospective security camera (CCTV) footage. Upon examining the images, it was clearly detected that the suspect, taking advantage of a momentary distraction of an employee, quickly put the 35-thousand-pound ring into his mouth and swallowed it within seconds.
VOMITED ON THE CARPET WHEN REALIZING HE COULDN'T ESCAPE
After the theft scheme was revealed, the store partners demanded the immediate return of the ring and closed the shop's exit door. Realizing he would be caught and couldn't get away, the man stuck his fingers down his throat and vomited the swallowed diamond ring onto the store's carpet. The suspect was escorted out by store security.
"HE WAS SPEAKING NORMALLY DESPITE SWALLOWING THE RING"
28-year-old Junaid Hassan, who runs the family business, stated in an interview with the British press that he still can't believe what happened. Hassan said, "I was afraid because the sharp diamond edges of the ring could have caused serious damage to the man's throat or internal organs. The strangest part was that he continued speaking normally with us as if nothing had happened, despite swallowing that large engagement ring."
Store officials noted that the suspect acted extremely calmly and, based on the speed at which he swallowed the ring, could be a professional thief. Security camera footage of the incident has been handed over to the London police, and an investigation into the matter has been launched.
