Following the evictions that began with the enactment of the 11th Judicial Package, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç responded to claims regarding a new execution regulation. Tunç stated, "There will be no execution regulation in the 12th Judicial Package, and there is no question of amnesty."
At the end of December, with the enforcement of the 11th Judicial Package, the way was opened for the release of over 50,000 convicts. Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç put an end to the rumors of a "new law."
"NO AMNESTY INVOLVED"
Responding to claims that a new execution regulation would be made, Minister Tunç stated, "A new execution law and amnesty are definitely not on the agenda. Right now, our members of parliament are gradually bringing the judicial packages to the agenda of the Assembly within the scope of the Judicial Reform Strategy Document," he said.
MHP'S YILDIZ'S MESSAGE ON THE EXECUTION LAW
MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız, in a statement he made yesterday, said, "We have made an execution regulation. 50,000 people are being released, and within 6 months, another 50-60,000 people will be released. If we pass an execution law, we say that 'the execution regulation has turned into a patched quilt,' and we can get rid of this as well. Together, we can pass a coherent execution law that complies with the principle of equality in the constitution. The only thing we cannot agree on in execution is the ratios. We can discuss the ratios as well. There is no upfront situation like halving," he said. Yıldız's remarks rekindled the claims of "execution regulation."
SCOPE OF THE REGULATION IN THE 11TH JUDICIAL PACKAGE
On the other hand, the current regulation covers those convicted of crimes committed on or before July 31, 2023. It allows these individuals to leave closed prisons for open prisons or from open prisons to supervised release three years earlier. Accordingly, an initial release of 55,000 people is expected, with 115,000 people expected to be released within a few months.
