With the announcement of the inflation data for December, attention has turned to the lowest pension adjustment. The economic management gathered at Beştepe to discuss the figures. According to information leaked from government circles, the increase expected to be implemented in 2026 will exceed the announced amount of 18,938 Turkish lira for the lowest pension. It is being discussed that the lowest pension will be increased in line with the minimum wage and will rise to 21,500 Turkish lira.
After the announcement of inflation figures by TÜİK, the pension increase has gained clarity. A 12.19% increase will be made to the monthly pensions of SGK and BAĞ-KUR retirees. Accordingly, the lowest pension, which was 16,881 lira, has now become 18,939 lira with the announced figure. Now, all eyes are on the expected regulation regarding the lowest pension, which has been the subject of criticism.
ADDITIONAL INCREASE FOR THE LOWEST PENSION
In the last two years, the government has brought the inflation rate to the Parliament in the same way, and this time it has rolled up its sleeves to make an additional increase to the lowest pension. In this context, Vice President Yılmaz, AK Party Group Chairman Güler, Minister of Treasury and Finance Şimşek, and Minister of Labor and Social Security Işıkhan met at Beştepe.
REGULATION TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE PARLIAMENT
The regulation to be brought to the Parliament will also examine impact analyses and budget implications in determining the increase rate. Then, a comprehensive bill that includes wage support for employers will be prepared and submitted to the Presidency of the Parliament. The proposal is expected to consist of 14-15 articles. After the proposal is accepted in the Parliament, it will become law and come into effect.
MINIMUM PENSION INCREASE FORMULA
NTV reporter Özgür Akbaş stated that there is a surprising study regarding the lowest pension on the government side. Aktaş, in a live broadcast, said, "There will be an increase above the 12.19% rate. In fact, what is said as AK Party backstage information is that there will be an increase of 27.36%, which is the same as the increase rate for the minimum wage. The lowest pension that nearly 4 million retirees will receive will be 21,500 TL. This figure is being discussed seriously. The impact on the Treasury is calculated to be 10 billion 248 million TL." he stated.
CEVDET YILMAZ SAID, "WE WILL NOT REMAIN INDIFFERENT TO DEMANDS"
Recently, Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, who was a guest on NTV's broadcast, stated that the regulation regarding the lowest pension would be made as soon as possible. Yılmaz expressed that they would not remain indifferent to the demands of retirees, saying, "I want to say that we are on the side of our retirees by pushing our resources to the limit. We did not let them be crushed by inflation."
Continuing his remarks, Yılmaz said, "Our SSK and civil servant retirees receive their rule-based increases. We do not need an additional regulation. However, the regulation regarding the minimum pension is an approach brought within a social support logic. These regulations are made as much as the inflation difference. This increase regarding the lowest pension needs to be made by law. An impact assessment is being conducted before decisions are made on these matters. The impact on the budget and resources will be evaluated, and a position will be determined. The final decision is up to our Parliament. These will be concluded in a short time. I want to say that we are on the side of our retirees by pushing our resources to the limit. We did not let them be crushed by inflation."
