In the Alaşehir district of Manisa, Kadriye Köken, a mother of three who was shot and killed in the street by her estranged husband during their divorce process, for whom she had obtained a restraining order, was laid to rest amid tears. Köken's coffin was carried by her female peers, who condemned violence against women.
In the Alaşehir district of Manisa, 40-year-old Kadriye Köken, a mother of three, was laid to rest in tears after being shot in the head with a rifle by her estranged husband in the middle of the street. Köken's coffin was carried on the shoulders of women after the funeral prayer.
The incident occurred yesterday around 2:00 PM on Şehit Nuri Street in Sakarya Neighborhood. According to the information obtained, her husband Süreyya Köken (42), who had a restraining order against him and was in the process of divorce, shot Kadriye Köken as she walked down the street. Köken, who was shot in the head, died at the scene, while the suspect fled after the attack. Süreyya Köken was quickly captured and taken into custody by the police.
RELATIVES COULDN'T HOLD BACK TEARS
After the crime scene investigation, Kadriye Köken's body was sent to the forensic medicine institution for an autopsy. After the autopsy procedures were completed, her body was handed over to her family, and a funeral prayer was held at Alaşehir Kavala Mosque following the afternoon prayer. Throughout the ceremony, her relatives could not hold back their tears.
WOMEN CARRIED THE COFFIN
After the funeral prayer, Kadriye Köken's coffin was carried on the shoulders of women to the funeral vehicle. Members of women's associations operating in Alaşehir carried placards condemning violence against women during the ceremony.
The funeral was attended by CHP Manisa Deputy Bekir Başevirgen, Alaşehir Mayor Ahmet Öküzcüoğlu, CHP Manisa Provincial Chair İlksen Özalper, Kadriye Köken's family, relatives, and many citizens.
