Azra Akın recently returned to the stage with the play 'Cactus Flower'. A few days ago, a problem arose between Azra Akın, who was unable to perform due to injuring her back in an unfortunate accident, and director Kemal Başar.

When Kemal Başar stated, "We haven't heard from Azra for two days," Azra Akın's manager Yasemin Kök responded, "Azra had an unfortunate accident and is unable to go on stage. We have a doctor's report. Despite this, she expressed her desire to go on stage in tears, but the doctor did not allow it. Kemal Bey's statement about not being able to reach her for two days is untrue."

Following this, Kemal Başar made a new statement.

"THE BIGGEST CRIME THAT CAN BE COMMITTED IN THIS THEATER"

Başar used the following expressions in his new statement regarding the issue:

"I read the misleading news in the media with astonishment. I was going to remain silent, but how and why should I remain silent now? Why this struggle to clear oneself? Why this deception of the public? Let's know the facts then.

Azra Akın, who I did not allow to have her manager, who is against the main principles of the theater, come into our dressing room, which is as private as our bedroom, with her driver, and who wanted a young man completely outside of art to be able to roam among the staff who are undressing and joking, stay at our hotel, and come between us, did not answer our calls after her manager's message, 'She fell down the stairs, she may not come tomorrow,' and indeed did not come to the play.

This is the biggest crime that can be committed in this theater. We requested the report, but we could not see it. For the canceled plays, municipalities request the report for the rights arising from the contracts, but they also cannot see it. They do not provide it. Because she disappointed the audience and her colleagues, and because she tarnished the reputation of Theater Keyfi, instead of reaching out to the director, who is the only person who should make a decision or find a solution, she cut off communication, and after two days of the play's cancellation, Azra read my harsh message, which is all true, and sent a message to someone in the team saying, 'At this point, I cannot work with you, I am leaving the play I love.' She caused disruption. Our paths were going to separate, but like the proverb 'A cunning thief overpowers the landlord,' she left on her own.

"AZRA WAS NOT SUCH A GIRL"

Azra was not such a girl. We have spent beautiful times together as a family in my home; she knows my son's childhood. She is a model, but a model with very high acting talent... And she is now 43 years old. I am the one who tells her that she should continue with acting, like an older brother... She has acted in two notable plays throughout her life, one being '72nd Dormitory,' which I directed years ago, and the other being 'Cactus Flower,' which I directed this season... In both of my rehearsals, I saw this when she asked for my help while preparing for acceptance into an acting workshop abroad, during the time I was friendly and working with her on English texts. Yes, she is disciplined while working. Years ago, she had also left a small role in a play directed by Hakan Altıner in a strange way; I had not examined it because I did not know the details, but this incident has always been on my mind.

"OUR PATHS HAVE NOW REALLY SEPARATED"

For many years, she always treated me like an older brother, a master, a teacher. She was always very respectful. During rehearsals and performances as well... This was the norm. What I have narrated is the abnormal part... I could not imagine her sending a statement to make such news while she should have been silent and ashamed, putting an honest journalist in a difficult position. Our paths have now really separated. Our theater was not involved. The tarnishing of our reputation and our respectability in front of the audience is much more important than the financial losses for our theater. Theater Keyfi has many qualified plays, actors, staff, and a wonderful main team. Cactus Flower will continue with a cast change starting in April. Our principles are the same as the main principles of theatrical art. It is respectfully announced to our audience, art lovers, and the public."
