Sergen Dogan, a 22-year-old farmer who distributed free potatoes in Amasya last year so that his crop would not remain in the field, this year shared approximately 6 tons of potatoes worth about 150 thousand liras for free with the villagers after a bountiful harvest. In the distribution that drew intense interest, the potatoes ran out within 10 minutes, and police and municipal police teams took precautions due to the crowd that formed.
In the Suluova district of Amasya, young farmer Sergen Doğan, who last year distributed free potatoes so that the crop would not remain in the field, this year again distributed tractor-loads of potatoes to share his abundant harvest and earnings with the citizens. Approximately 6 tons of potatoes, worth about 150 thousand liras, were gone within 10 minutes.
LAST YEAR HE SUFFERED A LOSS, THIS YEAR HE GOT THE REWARD OF HIS EFFORT
Sergen Doğan, 22, who returned to his village of Ayrancı in the Suluova district of Amasya after receiving university education in agricultural machinery, is farming together with his family.
Last year, Doğan, who could not find a market to sell his products despite high yields, distributed 8 tons of potatoes for free to prevent waste. This year, however, things turned around. The young farmer harvested more than 300 tons of potatoes from a 50-decare field and got the reward of his labor by selling his products at 25 liras per kilo in the field.
HE DISTRIBUTED 150 THOUSAND LIRAS WORTH OF POTATOES FOR FREE
Doğan, who wanted to share his earnings with the citizens, loaded 6 tons of potatoes onto a tractor with his brother and took them to the district center. Following the announcement made the day before, hundreds of citizens flocked to the distribution point.
The potatoes, worth approximately 150 thousand liras, were consumed in just 10 minutes.
DUE TO INTENSE INTEREST, TEAMS STEPPED IN
Due to the intense crowding during the distribution, citizens spilled onto the road, prompting police and municipal police teams to take precautions. To prevent a stampede, the tractor was directed to the garden of the sports hall, where the distribution was safely completed.
"WE WANTED TO MAKE OUR PEOPLE HAPPY"
Young farmer Sergen Doğan, stating that last year their products were not valued, but this year they had a bountiful season, said, "This year our crops are very good. We earned, we got the reward of our effort. We distributed 6 tons of potatoes. We wanted to make our people happy and reach those in need."
Emphasizing that young people should turn to agriculture, Doğan stated that he will continue to improve himself for more efficient production. Murat Kılıç, a tradesman who witnessed the potato distribution, congratulated the young farmer, noting that his behavior is exemplary.
