The release decision in the case regarding the Ayser Çalık Middle School attack, in which ten people lost their lives, sparked reactions from grieving families and lawyers. The families made a statement in front of the courthouse after the hearing that lasted approximately 16 hours.
RELEASE DECISION AFTER A 16-HOUR HEARING The trial concerning the Ayser Çalık Middle School attack in Kahramanmaraş, where 9 students and teacher Ayla Kara lost their lives, lasted approximately 16 hours. The court decided to release the attacker İsa Aras Mersinli's mother, P.P.M., by a majority vote. Following the decision, the families of the deceased students and teacher Ayla Kara reacted.
VERY HARSH OUTBURST FROM LAWYER: IT IS A LEGAL SCANDAL The families' lawyer, Özcan Kara, stating they would object to the release decision, said, "The right to a fair trial has been violated here, and they have decided to release the murderer's mother, P.P.M., by a majority vote. This decision will be immediately appealed by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office upon our request. We will also request the recusal of the member judges, except for the dissenting member judge. We believe they have lost their impartiality. The release of someone who has caused such a chain of negligence at this stage is a legal scandal." Kara, reminding that a view was given a month ago for the continuation of detention, asked, "If the same president gave an opinion for the continuation of detention in the preliminary hearing a month ago, what has changed a month later?" Lawyer Kara announced that they would apply to the Kahramanmaraş Chief Public Prosecutor's Office to object to the decision, request the re-arrest of P.P.M., and file a request for the recusal of the judges other than the dissenting member judge.
CALL FROM GRIEVING FATHER TO THE TOP OF THE STATE Abdullah Cevdet Yeşil, the father of Adnan Göktürk Yeşil, who lost his life in the attack, also said they had fought for their children for approximately 16 hours. Yeşil stated, "Therefore, I hope from the lofty Turkish justice that this mistake is corrected as soon as possible. I am calling out to our President and Devlet Bahçeli from here. As a father who placed soil on the hands of his 10-year-old, 11-year-old child, I am calling out to the elders of our state."
"TEN LIVES, TEN LIVES WERE BURIED IN THE SOIL" The words of Bayram Nabi Şişik's mother, Mine Hayva Şişik, revealed the families' reaction. Şişik said, "We buried our teacher and our children in the soil. Ten lives, ten lives were buried in the soil. Was this request accepted just so she could go next to her two daughters?" Furkan Sancak Balal's mother, Tuğba Belli, also reacted to the decision with the words, "They are outside. If they want, I can go inside. Is this what they want? Did they decide based on this? Are they blaming me, perhaps?"
