The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has launched an investigation into concerns that the emergency door opening mechanism in Tesla Model 3 vehicles is not easily accessible and clearly identifiable.
COVERS TENS OF THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES
In a statement from NHTSA, it was noted that the investigation covers an estimated 179,071 Tesla Model 3 vehicles from the 2022 model year.
THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR
The statement mentioned that the Office of Defect Investigation (ODI) received a defect petition containing claims that the mechanical door opening mechanism is hidden, lacks labeling, and is difficult to intuitively locate in an emergency.
INVESTIGATION PROCESS INITIATED
NHTSA's statement noted that the investigation process has been initiated to evaluate the issue and to decide whether to accept the petition.
