Logs falling from a truck in Balıkesir claimed lives.

In the Balıkesir section of the Istanbul-İzmir Highway, a truck with license plate 35 VEF 61, driven by Erkan Görkem G., dropped 3 logs onto the road in the Savaştepe district while heading towards İzmir from Istanbul. A light commercial vehicle and 4 cars that were following crashed into the logs. The highway suddenly turned into a battlefield. Upon notification, gendarmerie, fire brigade, and medical teams were dispatched to the scene. While the injured were taken to the hospital by 112 teams, 1 person died and 9 others were injured.

IT WAS LEARNED THAT THE INJURED WERE DOCTORS RETURNING FROM A CONGRESS

Medical teams took 8 of the injured to Balıkesir Atatürk City Hospital and one to Balıkesir University Medical Faculty Hospital. It was also learned that 4 of the injured were doctors who had just returned from a congress. The body of Öner Karabağ, who lost his life in the accident, was taken to Savaştepe State Hospital, while Ümit Utku Karabağ, who was in critical condition, could not be saved despite the interventions at the hospital. Of the 8 injured in the hospital, 6 were discharged, while the treatment of 2 injured individuals continued, and it was noted that they were not in life-threatening condition. Due to the accident, traffic flow on the highway was controlled in a single lane, and the truck driver was taken into custody.
