A flag change occurred at the Capital Markets Board, one of the critical institutions of economic management, with a Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated May 9, 2026. In line with the decision, Mahmut Sütcü, known for his experience in public finance and tax auditing, was appointed as the Chairman of the CMB.
With the Presidential Decree published in the Official Gazette dated May 9, 2026, significant changes were made in the management level of the Capital Markets Board (CMB). According to the decree signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Mahmut Sütcü was appointed as the Chairman of the CMB.
Another important appointment within the Board was made in its membership; Ahmet Aksu was appointed as the Second Chairman of the Board, and Yusuf Sünbül was appointed as a member.
WHO IS MAHMUT SÜTCÜ?
Mahmut Sütcü, the new chairman of the CMB, is known for his long-standing experience in economics and finance bureaucracy.
Born in 1968 in the Bafra district of Samsun, Sütcü graduated from the Department of Public Finance at the Faculty of Political Sciences of Ankara University in 1990.
Starting his career as an Assistant Account Expert in 1991, Sütcü became an Account Expert in 1994 and a Chief Account Expert in 2003.
Between 2002 and 2003, he worked in England for one year, conducting studies on international financial systems.
He held critical positions such as the Director of the Istanbul Foreign Trade Tax Office, the Director of the Antalya Tax Office, and the Director of the Ankara Tax Office. Subsequently, he served as the Deputy Director General of the Revenue Administration (GIB).
In addition to his administrative duties, he shared his knowledge in the academic field by giving Tax Law courses at Akdeniz University.
HE WAS THE 2ND CHAIRMAN OF THE CMB
Mahmut Sütcü, who had been serving as the Second Chairman of the CMB since November 2024, became the new chairman of the institution as of May 9, 2026.
Married and a father of two, Mahmut Sütcü will lead the strategies of the CMB in its new era.
