MINISTRY ORDERED DESTRUCTION
Speaking on the issue as reported by Sözcü, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry stated that after the laboratory results were finalized, a recall decision was immediately issued for all cheeses belonging to the batch number where listeria bacteria was detected. It was announced that all defective products pulled from the shelves in line with the decision were destroyed.
WHY IS LISTERIA BACTERIA DANGEROUS?
Listeria bacteria, which can grow in undercooked meat products, unwashed fresh vegetables and fruits, frozen foods, and unpasteurized dairy products, can usually be overcome with mild nausea or a flu-like infection in healthy adults. However, this condition is much more severe for individuals in risk groups.
Listeria bacteria causes serious infections that can pose life-threatening risks, especially in individuals with weakened immune systems or chronic illnesses, such as pregnant women, infants, the elderly, and cancer patients.
