In Bayburt, while sunny days reminiscent of summer have been experienced for the past few days, snowfall that began in the evening hours has once again covered the city in white. In some places, the snow thickness reached 15-20 centimeters, reminding people of the proverb, "March makes you look at the door and burns your shovel."
While both Ramadan and the snow have enveloped the streets of Bayburt in silence, some citizens started their day by sweeping the snow that had accumulated on their vehicles and shop fronts. A citizen named Necmi Köse, whose vehicle was covered in snow, stated that the snowfall was excessive, saying, "We didn't expect this much snow. It was lightly snowing in the evening, but we didn't anticipate it would be this much. If the weather is warm, this snow will melt in a week. They call it the 'big snowstorm' around here, and this is that storm."
Expressing that sunny weather had prevailed in Bayburt for the last few days, but today snowfall was significant, Ferhat Karabulut stated that he started his day with what he called "morning exercise," which was snow shoveling. He said, "The weather was sunny for the last 2 days, we weren't expecting snow. We didn't think the snow would stick this much; it was a surprise for us. We started our day by doing our morning exercise, we are cleaning up," he said.
THE PROVERB CAME TRUE Halil Yıldırım, a local tradesman, started his work by sweeping the snow that had accumulated in front of his shop. Reminding of the proverb "March shows its face at the door, makes you burn your shovel and pick," Yıldırım noted that this year's winter season has been harsh, stating, "Our ancestors' foresight came true; March really showed its face at the door and made us burn our shovels and picks. This year, winter has been tough. The meteorology department had warned us, but we didn't expect this much snow," he said.
A citizen named Murat Yıldırım expressed that the snowfall brought abundance and prosperity, stating that he found the amount of snow in March excessive. He said, "This is Bayburt; the proverb 'March shows its face at the door, makes you burn your shovel and pick' immediately comes to mind. We weren't surprised, but this much snow in this season was excessive. Normally, March is cold and snowy, but as I said, it was a bit too much. A blessed day, abundance, and prosperity. No worries, we are used to it," he said.
