Saudi Arabia has once again made headlines due to flooding after several months. Hail, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall have affected many regions of the country. The downpour that showed its effects across the city has given way to flooding.
MECCA UNDER WATER
Due to heavy rains, streets and avenues in Mecca have turned into lakes. Cars and trash containers were swept away like toys in the streets where floodwaters rose.
RED ALERT ISSUED
The Saudi Arabian Meteorology Department has issued a red alert for Mecca, Medina, and Jeddah. The meteorology department announced that rainfall will continue in the coming days and that the risk of flooding is high. It was emphasized that those living around Mecca, Medina, and Jeddah should take precautions.
FLOOD DISASTER OCCURRED IN SEPTEMBER AS WELL
In 2018, 14 people lost their lives due to rainfall affecting various cities in Saudi Arabia, including Mecca and Riyadh. Additionally, hundreds of sheep and camels perished in the flood. Last September, streets and avenues in Mecca again turned into lakes due to excessive rainfall.
