The Ministry of Interior announced that Merkezefendi Mayor Şeniz Doğan, who was arrested within the scope of an investigation into the crimes of bribery, tender rigging, and extortion, has been suspended from duty by a temporary measure.
A new decision has been made regarding Merkezefendi Mayor Şeniz Doğan, who was arrested together with her spouse as part of an investigation in Denizli into allegations of bribery, extortion, and rigging public tenders. The Ministry of Interior announced that Doğan has been suspended from duty as a temporary measure.
SHE WAS ARRESTED TOGETHER WITH HER SPOUSE
Within the scope of the bribery, extortion, and tender-rigging investigation launched by the Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office on October 27, suspects including Merkezefendi Mayor Şeniz Doğan and her spouse Mehmet Ali Doğan were taken into custody.
After police procedures, the suspects were referred to the courthouse; 5 people, including Şeniz Doğan and her spouse, were arrested, while 12 people were released under judicial control conditions.
SHE SHARED A MESSAGE AFTER BEING ARRESTED
After her arrest, Şeniz Doğan published a message on her social media account and addressed the people of Merkezefendi.
In her message, Doğan used the following statements:
“My dear fellow citizens, I love both Merkezefendi and you very much. I wholeheartedly believe that the difficult days we are experiencing will pass. Until the many beautiful days we will see together arrive, my son Reşat Çınar is entrusted to you. Stay healthy.”
After Doğan's arrest, 27th Term CHP MP Süleyman Girgin also made a statement of support. Girgin used the following expressions: “Şeniz Doğan, whom you accuse of betraying her people and try to make pay the price for not bowing to the AKP, is not alone. We are with her.”
MINISTRY OF INTERIOR SUSPENDED HER FROM DUTY
A suspension from duty decision was taken by the Ministry of Interior regarding Şeniz Doğan, who was arrested within the scope of the investigation. The Ministry reported that the decision was applied as a temporary measure pursuant to Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of Municipal Law No. 5393.
The statement made by the Ministry of Interior included the following statements:
“Regarding Şeniz DOĞAN, Mayor of Merkezefendi District of Denizli Province, upon her arrest by the decision of Denizli 2nd Criminal Judgeship of Peace dated 31.10.2026 and numbered 2026/469 within the scope of the investigation conducted in the file of Denizli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office numbered 2026/13472 Investigation for the offenses of ‘Taking Bribes, Rigging Tenders, and Extortion,’ she has been suspended from duty by the Ministry of Interior as a temporary measure pursuant to Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of Municipal Law No. 5393. It is respectfully announced to the public.”
