The General Directorate of Meteorology issued a "yellow" coded heavy snowfall warning for 13 provinces in the Central and Eastern Black Sea regions and the eastern part of Central Anatolia, while in Istanbul, the expectation of snow in higher altitudes has emerged alongside a drop in temperature.
The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a "yellow" coded warning for 13 provinces in the Central and Eastern Black Sea regions and the eastern part of Central Anatolia due to expected heavy snowfall. MGM announced that partly and very cloudy weather will be effective across the country, with mixed rain and snowfall expected in many regions.
WINTER HAS SHOWN ITS FACE
According to MGM's forecasts, rain and mixed rain are expected in the northeastern Marmara, northern Balıkesir, eastern Kırklareli, as well as around Osmaniye and Hatay; mixed rain and snowfall are anticipated in the Western and Eastern Black Sea, southern and eastern Central Anatolia, Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia, and around Kahramanmaraş, Ordu, and Tokat.
MGM reported that the precipitation will be locally strong along the Eastern Black Sea coasts and in the regions of Sivas, Yozgat, Kayseri, Nevşehir, Aksaray, Sinop, Bartın, and Gümüşhane, as well as the coasts of Artvin and Kastamonu. It was noted that the wind in the Marmara and Northern Aegean would blow from the north at a speed of 40-60 km/h.
AVALANCHE DANGER WARNING
MGM emphasized that the avalanche danger continues in the high areas of the inner parts of the Eastern Black Sea and in sloped areas with a high snow cover in the eastern part of Eastern Anatolia.
A WARNING FOR ISTANBUL AS WELL
Meanwhile, in Istanbul, the temperature will drop today, and the mixed rain seen in many districts will turn into snowfall, especially in higher areas. In addition to MGM, the Istanbul Governorship also announced that mixed rain and snowfall are expected in the higher areas of the city today. The statement noted that the lowest temperature is expected to be 3 degrees, while the highest temperature is expected to be 6 degrees. It was reported that a short-term cover could form in the high areas of the city and northern districts. The statement included, "Since the wind is expected to blow from the north at times with strong gusts (40-60 kilometers/hour), caution and preparedness should be exercised against possible adverse conditions."
