Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that, beyond the statement released at the summit held after Israel's attack on Qatar, Muslim leaders have made much tougher joint decisions against Israeli expansionism in private discussions, but these have not been reflected in the press.
Israel conducted an airstrike on the Hamas delegation in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on September 9 during peace negotiations. While senior Hamas officials escaped the attack unharmed, the son of Hamas Political Bureau member Khalil al-Hayya, four Hamas members, and one Qatari police officer lost their lives.
ISRAEL'S FIRST ATTACK ON QATAR
The heinous attack was recorded as Israel's first assault on Qatari territory. While the international community reacted strongly, U.S. President Donald Trump stated, "We had no knowledge of it." However, the American press claimed that Washington was aware of the process.
THE ISLAMIC WORLD TOOK A JOINT STANCE
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League held an extraordinary meeting and organized a joint summit in Qatar following the attack. In the statement released at the end of the summit, it was said, "We must take a joint step against Israel."
DECISIONS NOT REPORTED IN THE MEDIA
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, in an interview with MBC Egypt, stated that beyond the statements in the declaration, leaders had made much harsher and more comprehensive decisions against Israel's expansionism during behind-the-scenes discussions, but these were not disclosed to the public.
NEW THREAT FROM NETANYAHU
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in a statement made the day after the attack, threatened Qatar, saying, "Either you expel them or you hand them over to justice. Otherwise, we will do it."
