A response came from Gürlek's lawyer Abdullah Adır to the statements by New Party Chairman Özgür Özel regarding the title deed records, after Özel was ordered to pay 750,000 Turkish lira in compensation due to allegations concerning Justice Minister Akın Gürlek's assets. Rejecting Özel's claim that Gürlek's lawyers opposed bringing the title deed records to court, Adır stated that they had no such request and said, "The defendant who was ordered to pay compensation continues to spread lies and slander before the public."
Following New Party General Chair Özgür Özel’s claims regarding Justice Minister Akın Gürlek’s assets, a decision has been announced in the mutual moral damages lawsuit filed afterwards. The court partially accepted the moral damages lawsuit filed by Minister Akın Gürlek and ruled that Özgür Özel pay 750,000 TL in damages. Meanwhile, the counter-lawsuit filed by Özgür Özel was rejected.
DECISION ANNOUNCED VIA E-HEARING
The decision hearing in the mutual moral damages lawsuit filed between Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and New Party General Chair Özgür Özel over claims made regarding Minister Gürlek’s assets was held at Istanbul 3rd Civil Court of First Instance. The parties’ lawyers attended the decision hearing via e-hearing.
At the hearing, Minister Akın Gürlek’s lawyer Abdullah Adır repeated his previous statements and requested that their lawsuit be accepted and the counter-lawsuit be rejected. The court issued its decision after the lawyer’s statements. The court partially accepted the 1 million lira moral damages lawsuit filed by Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and ruled that Özgür Özel pay 750,000 TL in moral damages.
COUNTER-LAWSUIT REJECTED
The 1 million 100 thousand TL moral damages lawsuit filed by Özgür Özel against Minister Gürlek was rejected by the court panel.
ÖZEL: THE REALITY OF THE TITLE DEEDS HAS BEEN IMPLICITLY ACCEPTED
Making a statement after the decision, New Party General Chair Özgür Özel claimed that Gürlek’s lawyers opposed bringing the title deed records to the court.
Özel said, “If you have courage, disclose those title deeds, but it is clear that they accept the existence of the title deeds and their lawyers oppose the court requesting them. With Akın Gürlek’s lawyers opposing the request for the title deeds and the judge, under pressure, of course, deciding the Justice Minister’s case, the reality of the title deeds has been implicitly accepted.”
RESPONSE TO ÖZEL FROM GÜRLEK’S LAWYER
A response to Özel’s statements came from Minister Gürlek’s lawyer Abdullah Adır. In his statement, Adır rejected the claim that they opposed the request for title deed records and argued that they made no such request to the court.
Adır said in his statement: “One more of the smear campaigns directed against our Justice Minister Akın Gürlek for years was decided today. In the lawsuit filed over statements that violated our client’s personality rights and were in the nature of insult and slander, it was ruled that the defendant Özgür Özel pay 750 thousand lira in moral damages.
In the press statement made by the defendant side after the decision, it was alleged that we made a statement, in line with our client’s knowledge and instruction, that the title deed records should not be requested. However, the claim in question does not reflect the truth.
It is established that neither in our oral statements submitted to the court during the hearing nor in the petitions we submitted to the file did we have any request that the title deed records not be requested.
The defendant, who has just been ordered to pay damages due to his slanders, continues his lies and slander before the public. As long as he continues these actions, he will also continue to account before the law.”
