"A NEW TYPE OF FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE HAS BEEN SEEN FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 60 YEARS"

Yumaklı, stating that foot-and-mouth disease is on the ministry's agenda, said, "A new type of foot-and-mouth disease has been seen in Turkey for the first time since 1965. From the moment we first noticed the disease, we restricted animal movements, especially in animal markets, to prevent the spread of this disease. We have very ancient institutions. The foot-and-mouth institute is one of them. It immediately produced the vaccine against this new serotype. And thankfully, today we quickly deployed 11 million doses of vaccine to continue vaccinating our animals. We observe that in provinces where the vaccination rate has exceeded 85%, the risk of the disease has decreased. In this context, we lifted restrictions in Edirne, Istanbul, Tekirdağ, Çanakkale, Kırklareli, Hakkari, and Van. We reopened the animal markets. God willing, next week we will also provide this relief by opening animal markets in 17 of our provinces, including Çorum. This will also be a breath of fresh air for our producers," he said.
