The International Atomic Energy Agency reported that multiple explosions and anti-aircraft sounds were heard at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine yesterday morning, and several drones were detected over the 'Exclusion Zone' located 5 kilometers away from the facility.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) made a written statement regarding the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

NUMEROUS EXPLOSIONS AND ANTI-AIRCRAFT SOUNDS HEARD IN CHERNOBYL

The statement said, "(Yesterday) Thursday morning, the IAEA team in Chernobyl woke up to numerous explosion sounds. Later, it was determined that several drones were detected in the 'Exclusion Zone' about 5 kilometers away from the facility, and anti-aircraft sounds were heard."

IAEA PRESIDENT CALLS FOR 'RESTRAINT'

The statement included the views of IAEA President Rafael Mariano Grossi, who emphasized his deep concern over the increased drone activities reported near nuclear facilities. Grossi stated, "I reiterate my call for military forces to exercise maximum restraint to prevent a nuclear accident."

SERIOUS SOURCE OF CONCERN FOR NUCLEAR SAFETY

The statement also noted that the IAEA team at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant reported hearing military activities almost every day throughout the past week. It was mentioned that difficulties in providing reliable cooling water continue, and the potential "loss of cooling" that could arise from the depletion of water is a serious source of concern for nuclear safety.
