Greece, which signed an approximately 3 billion euro 'Achilles Shield' air defense agreement with Israel, sent an arrogant message to Turkey. In a statement where Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said they support Turkey's European path, he used the phrase, 'Ankara must get along with us.'
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who signed a 3 billion euro defense deal with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, sent a message to Turkey. Mitsotakis said, "Turkey's European journey, which we want to see strengthened, should progress alongside the establishment of good neighborly relations with Greece," adding, "Ankara must get along well with us."
3 BILLION EURO DEAL WITH ISRAEL
Israel and Greece signed the "Achilles Shield" air defense agreement, worth approximately 3 billion euros, on August 31. The Israeli Ministry of Defense described the agreement as the largest defense export deal between the two countries to date and one of the largest in Israel's history. Following the defense agreement, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis's remarks about Turkey drew attention.
MIT SOTAKIS'S "GOOD NEIGHBORLINESS" CONDITION TO TURKEY
Mitsotakis, who met with European Council President Antonio Costa, touched on Turkey-Greece relations after the meeting. Stating that Greece wants to strengthen Turkey's European path, Mitsotakis said Ankara must establish good neighborly relations with Athens for this to happen. Mitsotakis also referred to Turkey's declared marine national parks, stating that Greece's sovereignty should not be questioned.
"THERE SHOULD BE NO ACTIVE WAR THREAT"
The Greek Prime Minister used the following statements in his remarks:
"There should be no active war threat, and our sovereignty should not be questioned. We want to strengthen Turkey's European path, but this must progress alongside establishing good neighborly relations with Greece. Ankara must get along well with us. My homeland is a peaceful country and poses no threat to anyone. It will not accept suggestions from anyone on how to strengthen its defense."
