The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched a comprehensive investigation into 36 companies within the scope of "organized crimes" regarding tenders conducted by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) and its subsidiaries. It was noteworthy that the investigation file also includes companies that received tenders from the municipality during the term of former president Melih Gökçek.
As part of the investigation conducted by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an official letter was sent to the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, and the 36 companies under review were put under scrutiny. In the letter from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that a complete list of all tenders these companies have participated in or won to date be prepared. It was asked that the relevant tender files and records be delivered directly to the Ankara Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch Directorate.
INVESTIGATION ALSO COVERS TENDERS FROM PREVIOUS PERIOD
Acting swiftly upon the prosecutor's request, the ABB Legal Counsel forwarded the relevant letter to all municipality units and subsidiaries to thoroughly compile the requested information and documents. Noting that the investigation into "organized crimes" covers a significantly broad period, it was shared that among the 36 companies named in the file are firms that won large-scale tenders during Melih Gökçek's tenure as mayor. It was learned that law enforcement will examine the companies' commercial activities and possible allegations of irregularities in detail through the tender files to be delivered.
MELİH GÖKÇEK WILL TESTIFY TODAY
While a large-scale investigation process into municipal tenders and companies has been initiated, former Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek will testify today at 16:00 as a "suspect" before the prosecutor's office, based on allegations that unregistered money was transferred to companies abroad.
