The details of the operation in which 21-year-old Berkan Çil, a DEASH suspect who clashed with police in Sultanbeyli, was neutralized have emerged. It was determined that the suspect fled from operations carried out at two addresses in Pendik and Tuzla, and then purchased a ticket for a bus departing from the Sultanbeyli Bus Terminal. During efforts to apprehend him at the bus terminal, Çil opened fire on police teams and was neutralized after the teams returned fire.
The details of the operation in which DEAŞ suspect Berkan Çil (21), who opened fire on police teams in Sultanbeyli, was neutralized have emerged. It was determined that the suspect fled from the operations carried out at 2 addresses in Pendik and Tuzla, and then bought a ticket for a bus departing from Sultanbeyli Bus Station. Çil, who opened fire on police teams during efforts to capture him at the bus station, was neutralized when the teams returned fire. Tahsin P. (49), who was at the bus station during the clash, was injured. G.Ç (48), who was assessed to be in contact with Berkan Çil, was also detained in Tuzla.
In the efforts carried out in coordination with the National Intelligence Organization and Istanbul Police Department, an operation was initiated to capture Berkan Çil, who was assessed to be linked to the DEAŞ armed terrorist organization and planning a terrorist attack in Turkey.
HE ESCAPED FROM BOTH OPERATIONS
Within the scope of the efforts carried out by the Counter-Terrorism Branch Directorate in coordination with the Intelligence Branch Directorate, operations were carried out yesterday at 2 addresses determined in Pendik and Tuzla. Berkan Çil managed to escape and disappear during the operation. Following this, efforts to capture the suspect were expanded.
HE BOUGHT A BUS TICKET
In the investigation conducted by police teams, it was determined that Çil had bought a ticket for a bus departing from Sultanbeyli Bus Station. Teams taking precautions at the bus station initiated efforts to capture the suspect. At that moment, Çil, who opened fire on police teams with the pistol he had, was neutralized when the teams returned fire. Tahsin P., who was at the bus station during the clash, was also injured. G.Ç (48), who was assessed to be in contact with Berkan Çil, was also detained in Tuzla.
MATERIALS USED IN EXPLOSIVE MAKING WERE FOUND
Materials assessed to be potentially used in the making of explosives were found in the suspect's home. Examinations are being conducted on the samples taken.
STATEMENT FROM THE GOVERNORSHIP
In the statement made by the Istanbul Governorship after the incident, it was stated: "In the efforts carried out in coordination with the National Intelligence Organization and Istanbul Police Department; an operation was carried out in Sultanbeyli to capture Berkan Ç. (21), who was assessed to be linked to the DEAŞ Armed Terrorist Organization and planning a terrorist attack in our country. When the suspect opened fire on our police officers, fire was returned and the suspect Berkan Ç. was neutralized. During this time, one of our citizens was injured. The investigation into the matter continues."
