In Istanbul, disruptions in transportation occurred during the morning hours due to heavy rain and commute traffic. Traffic density across the city reached 78%, while it was measured at 89% on the Anatolian Side and 71% on the European Side. Vehicles struggled to move on main arteries, and long vehicle queues formed on bridge connecting roads.
Traffic congestion increased in Istanbul from the morning hours on the third workday of the week. Citizens who set out to go to work and school experienced difficulties in transportation, also affected by the heavy downpour. While congestion formed on the D-100 highway, TEM Motorway, bridge connecting roads and public transport stops, traffic came to a standstill at some points, especially on the Anatolian Side.
TRAFFIC ON THE ANATOLIAN SIDE REACHED 89 PERCENT
According to the traffic density map of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, traffic density across the city was measured at 78 percent in the morning hours. While this rate rose to 89 percent on the Anatolian Side, it reached 71 percent on the European Side.
On the Anatolian Side, traffic came to a standstill in both directions on the section of the D-100 highway between Göztepe and Kozyatağı. Vehicles also advanced with difficulty in some sections between Maltepe-Kartal and Pendik-Tuzla.
LONG QUEUES FORMED ON BRIDGE CONNECTING ROADS
Congestion was also experienced on the connecting roads of the July 15 Martyrs Bridge and the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, which connect the two sides of Istanbul.
While traffic on the passage to the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge started from Kozyatağı, drivers wanting to reach the July 15 Martyrs Bridge encountered congestion starting from Ataşehir.
On the Üsküdar direction of the Şile Motorway, vehicles advanced slowly from the Ihlamurkuyu area to the July 15 Martyrs Bridge.
TRAFFIC CAME TO A STANDSTILL ON THE TEM MOTORWAY AND D-100
On the Edirne direction of the TEM Motorway, congestion starting from Sancaktepe extended to Ataşehir. In the Ankara direction, traffic flow slowed between Ferhatpaşa and Sultanbeyli.
On the European Side, on the Ankara direction of the D-100 highway, drivers had difficulty advancing in the sections between Beylikdüzü and Bakırköy, and between Zeytinburnu and Şişli.
Congestion was also observed between Gaziosmanpaşa and Kağıthane on the Ankara direction of the TEM Motorway.
CONGESTION WAS ALSO EXPERIENCED AT PUBLIC TRANSPORT STOPS
Traffic congestion across the city was also reflected at public transport points. In the morning hours, citizens wanting to go to work and school created congestion at the stops.
Due to the heavy downpour, the slow movement of vehicles on main arteries and connecting roads negatively affected transportation in the morning hours.
