The leader of the Great Unity Party, Mustafa Destici, a partner in the People's Alliance, stated in a live broadcast that he sees a high possibility of early elections. Destici, who said, "An early election could be held in the fall of 2027," responded to the question of whether he had discussed the matter with President Erdoğan by saying, "We haven't had a long, private conversation about this, but of course, we do mention these things in certain environments."
The General Chairman of the Great Unity Party, Mustafa Destici, made statements that will create an agenda during his appearance on EKOL TV's live broadcast. Destici stated that the elections could be brought forward from May 14, 2028, and that there could be an early election, saying, "An early election could be held in the fall of 2027."
"PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN SHOULD RUN AGAIN"
Evaluating President Erdoğan's statement, "I have no intention of running again," BBP leader Mustafa Destici said, "I interpret this statement as a response to unfounded and inappropriate remarks like, 'Mr. President, the People's Alliance is making this statement to pave the way for being re-elected as President by changing the constitution after the process of a Terror-Free Turkey has begun.' He says, 'I have no such intention.' I believe that under the current conditions Turkey is going through, it would be more beneficial for Turkey, the Turkish nation, and the geography of Turkistan for our esteemed President to run again and continue as President," he stated.
"HE HAS A GREAT WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE"
Continuing his remarks, Destici said, "Because he has great experience, a wealth of knowledge, and political weight. We see this very clearly not only in Turkey but also in international meetings outside of Turkey. There are ongoing relationships. Therefore, this is a state matter. Sometimes politicians may need to make sacrifices for their country, their nation, and their state. Throughout Turkish history, there have been conflicts due to power struggles, armies have fought, and states have fragmented. Those states have diminished and disappeared. I believe that it would be correct from my perspective and political experience for our esteemed President to run for another term and continue in the presidency," he said.
"I SEE A STRONG POSSIBILITY OF EARLY ELECTION"
Commenting on the public discussions regarding President Erdoğan's candidacy, Mustafa Destici said, "This can be overcome in two ways. The first is a constitutional amendment, and the second is a decision for an early election. Even if it is just 3-5 months earlier, it provides the opportunity to run again after the election. I see the possibility of an early election decision as stronger. I see the likelihood of an election in the fall of 2027 as very high," he responded, drawing attention to the discussions about early elections.
"TURKEY CAN BE BETTER GOVERNED WITH A SEMI-PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM"
Destici stated, "A constitutional amendment will likely come to Turkey's agenda. But will there be a system change within that amendment, within that package? I do not know. As Mustafa Destici, as the General Chairman of the Great Unity Party, I personally believe that Turkey can be better governed under a semi-presidential system or that social consensus can be achieved at a higher level after this much experience," he said.
