BOTAŞ increased the monthly consumption limits for November and December for residential subscribers in 81 provinces under the tiered natural gas tariff. In November, the limit was 283.78 cubic meters in Ankara, 136.01 in Istanbul, and 67.97 in Izmir. Sector sources stated that if the limits had not been increased, at least 40 percent of subscribers would pay higher bills under the second tier.

Petroleum Pipeline Corporation Inc. (BOTAŞ) updated the province-based consumption limits for November and December under the tiered natural gas tariff applied to households. Sector sources argued that this regulation came onto the agenda as a necessity and said, "If the limits had not been increased, at least 40 percent of subscribers would have experienced a high bill shock from the second tier."

BOTAŞ took the step expected in the natural gas sector. According to the table published on BOTAŞ's website, the monthly natural gas consumption limits for household subscribers in 81 provinces, to be taken as the basis for tiered pricing, were re-determined for November and December.

NEW LIMITS FOR ANKARA, ISTANBUL AND IZMIR

Accordingly, in November, the natural gas consumption limit was 283.78 cubic meters in Ankara, 136.01 cubic meters in Istanbul, and 67.97 cubic meters in Izmir.  In December, these limits were set at 420 cubic meters in Ankara, 259.35 cubic meters in Istanbul, and 196.23 cubic meters in Izmir.

ONE-MONTH SHIFT IN LIMITS CORRECTED

In response to a question from ANKA News Agency, sector sources said that this regulation came onto the agenda as a necessity. Noting that there was a one-month shift in the previous list, the sources said, "A calculation based on accrued consumption stood out. For example, November limits had been determined based on October accrued consumption. Now, new consumption limits for November and December have been determined based on the average natural gas consumption of the relevant month, and the limits have been increased."

Pointing out that this regulation would have a positive impact on millions of subscribers, the sources said, "If the limits had not been increased, at least 40 percent of subscribers would have experienced a high bill shock from the second tier."

21.8 MILLION HOUSEHOLD SUBSCRIBERS

Turkey switched to a tiered application for natural gas consumed in households in April. BOTAŞ sets two different prices: Tier-1 and Tier-2.  For households with normal consumption in Tier-1, the natural gas price per cubic meter is applied as 10.62 TL, and the Tier-2 price as 18 TL. By adding SCT, VAT, and the system usage fee (SKB) to these prices, the per-cubic-meter prices to be reflected on bills become clear. Those consuming in Tier-1 pay 17.79 TL per cubic meter of natural gas, while those consuming in Tier-2 pay 26.73 TL. In Tier-2, in some provinces, the price per cubic meter of gas can exceed 30 TL. There are 21.8 million natural gas household subscribers in Turkey.
