With the signature of President Erdoğan, new rectors have been appointed to 9 universities. Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Ege University are among the universities that have changed their rectors, while the appointment of former President of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez as the rector of Turkey International Islamic Science and Technology University has drawn attention.

NEW ASSIGNMENT FOR MEHMET GÖRMEZ

Among the universities that changed their rectors are Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University and Ege University, while former President of Religious Affairs Mehmet Görmez was appointed to Turkey International Islamic Science and Technology University.

HERE ARE THE UNIVERSITIES WITH NEW RECTORS

According to the decisions published in the Official Gazette, the universities with new rectors are as follows:

• Prof. Dr. Cemal İbiş to the Rectorship of Altınbaş University,

• Prof. Dr. Abdullah Kuzu to the Rectorship of Antalya Belek University,

• Prof. Dr. Faruk Yiğit to the Rectorship of Bolu Abant İzzet Baysal University,

• Prof. Dr. Musa Alcı to the Rectorship of Ege University,

• Prof. Dr. Rasim Akpınar to the Rectorship of İzmir Bakırçay University,

• Prof. Dr. Ahmet Sacit Açıkgözoğlu to the Rectorship of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University,

• Prof. Dr. Hasan Uslu to the Rectorship of Niğde Ömer Halisdemir University,

• Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez to the Rectorship of Turkey International Islamic Science and Technology University,

• Prof. Dr. Ahmet Demir to the Rectorship of Uşak University.

Erdoğan made these appointments in accordance with Article 13 of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 and Articles 2, 3, and 7 of the Presidential Decree No. 3.

WHO IS MEHMET GÖRMEZ?

He was born in 1959 in Gaziantep. He completed his primary education in Nizip and his secondary education at Gaziantep Imam Hatip High School. He started his higher education at Ankara University Faculty of Theology in 1983. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Theology in 1987.

He completed his master's degree in the Department of Hadith in 1990 with his thesis titled "Musa Carullah Bigiyef, His Life, Ideas, and Works." In 1988, he spent a year at Cairo University for research and studies. He completed his doctorate in 1994 with his thesis titled "Methodological Issues in Understanding and Interpreting Sunnah and Hadith."

Between 1995 and 1997, he taught at the Faculty of Theology of Ahmet Yesevi University. He was involved in the preparation of the associate degree program in Theology at Anadolu University. He was in England for research and studies in 1997-1998.

He became an assistant professor in 1998 and an associate professor in 1999. He taught at the Faculty of Education of Hacettepe University between 2001 and 2003. He became a professor in 2006. Appointed as the Deputy President of Religious Affairs in 2003, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez served as the Deputy President of Religious Affairs between 2003-2010 and as the President of Religious Affairs between 2010-2017. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez, who has many published works, is married and a father of three children, and he speaks Arabic and English.
