The famous mineral water brand, which previously had millions of bottles recalled due to fecal-derived bacteria found in its products, has now made headlines again with searches and raids in France. French inspection teams conducted searches at a Nestle laboratory and the bottling plant of the Perrier water brand.
French judicial and administrative inspection teams conducted searches at a laboratory belonging to Swiss-based food company Nestle and at the bottling facility of its water brand Perrier.
BRAND STATEMENT
Nestle confirmed the raids and searches carried out by security forces and inspection teams in France. In a statement on the matter, Nestle said, "We continue to work in full cooperation with the relevant authorities."
According to Radio France, the searches were conducted as part of a judicial investigation initiated after a consumer rights advocacy group filed a criminal complaint with the Paris Prosecutor's Office, alleging "consumer deception and fraud."
LOST "NATURAL MINERAL WATER" STATUS
The French brand Perrier has long been the focus of legal and administrative reviews in the country. Reports in the French media in 2024 alleged that the company used filtering and treatment methods not legally permitted to prevent contamination in its water source.
Following these irregular practices, Perrier waters lost their classification status as "natural mineral water" under European Union (EU) and French regulations.
