Binance's Android app has been removed from the Google Play Store in certain EU countries amid questions about the exchange's compliance with the European Union's crypto licensing framework. The app was removed from specific countries rather than all EU markets.
A user in Spain confirmed on Monday that the Binance app no longer appears in Google Play searches. The app remained accessible via the Oppo App Market used on Oppo devices.
In contrast, checks in Poland showed the app is still available on Google Play, indicating the issue does not affect all EU markets.
CLAIM RAISED BY A RIVAL EXCHANGE EXECUTIVE
The first reports that Binance's Android app had been removed from Google Play in Europe emerged last week. Erald Ghoos, CEO of rival exchange OKX Europe, suggested in a social media post that the app was removed due to Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) licensing requirements. Binance, contacted for comment on the changes, had not responded by the time of publication.
BINANCE HAD WITHDRAWN ITS APPLICATION IN GREECE
The news came weeks after Binance withdrew its MiCA application in Greece, shortly before the MiCA transition period ended on July 1. The company later informed some EU users that access to certain services would be restricted, while withdrawal operations would remain open.
