Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that his Military Secretary, Roman Gofman, has been appointed as the new head of Mossad. Gofman is expected to succeed the current head of Mossad, David Barnea, in June of next year. In a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, Gofman was praised, highlighting his service as a fighter and commander in the Armored Corps, as well as his role as the battalion commander of the 75th Battalion of the 7th Brigade.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that his current Military Secretary, Major General Roman Gofman, has been appointed as the new head of Mossad.
In a statement from the Prime Minister's Office, it was said, "After discussions with various candidates, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to appoint Military Secretary Major General Roman Gofman to head Mossad, responsible for the Intelligence and Special Operations of the State of Israel."
WILL START IN JUNE
Gofman will take over from the current Mossad President David Barnea in June of next year. The appointment requested by Netanyahu will be submitted to the Senior Appointments Advisory Committee later on Thursday.
SERVED AS BATTALION COMMANDER
The Prime Minister's Office listed Gofman's credentials, stating that he served as a fighter and commander in Armored Units, and as a battalion commander in the 75th Battalion of the 7th Brigade. The statement also noted that Gofman was an officer in the 36th Division, Etzion Brigade, and 7th Brigade.
Gofman, who has been serving as the Prime Minister's Military Secretary since May of last year, previously held positions as the commander of the 210th Division and the National Ground Forces Training Center, as well as Chief of Staff at COGAT.
