No damage related to locust invasion or high population was detected in 2026, while field inspections have been increased after recent "giant locust" news prompted the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry to go on alert.
Following the images of locusts shared on social media in Tekirdağ, the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams intensified field inspections, while it was reported that there were no reports or detections of locust infestations or damage due to high population for 2026.
CONTROL EFFORTS CONTINUE UNINTERRUPTEDLY
Teams affiliated with the Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and district directorates are conducting uninterrupted surveys and control efforts in areas that may be locust egg-laying sites. Authorities stated that no reports or complaints regarding locust infestations or damage from high population have been received across the province this year. Teams carry out regular inspections in areas where locust emergence may occur, and control measures will be implemented during the development period when newly hatched locusts are found in groups.
If inspections determine that locust emergence areas are egg-laying sites, it was noted that necessary control measures are planned and implemented under the State Aid Control program, regardless of the ownership status of the area.
