The father of Nihal Candan, who lost her life due to anorexia, spoke about how fame changed his children. "We were a civil servant family, but when we entered the world of fame, my children went off the rails," said Candan, expressing great regret for not being able to protect his daughter. He blamed himself with the words, "I couldn't equip her with moral values, I failed."
Last week, social media phenomenon Nihal Candan, who was being treated in intensive care for anorexia nervosa, lost her life. Following her death, her father Hakan Candan broke his silence. Expressing deep regret after his daughter's passing, Candan stated that fame has shaken the family structure and that he could not protect his children from the effects of this world.
Father Hakan Candan, who said that his daughter fell ill after entering prison, stated, "Being associated with crimes viewed negatively by society, such as money laundering and fraud, severely affected my daughter's psychology. The fact that she experienced a separation from her husband shortly after entering prison made everything even more difficult. She did not experience any negative issues related to prison conditions. However, when the problems she faced with her husband were added, Nihal's illness began there."
Hakan Candan made special statements to the Günaydın newspaper, saying, "My children, who come from a civil servant family like us, went astray when they entered the world of fame. They made these mistakes because I could not raise them as proper individuals. With moral awareness and societal value judgments, we could have kept the children away from these negativities, but we could not do it."
At this point, father Hakan Candan stated that he also blames himself, saying, "No matter what happens, we could have provided moral awareness and societal value judgments to keep the children away from these negativities. But we could not do it. I criticize myself. But I also want to express my helplessness and despair at this point. Nihal's negative behaviors and actions that society frowned upon led to the formation of wrong perceptions in society. At this point, I criticize myself as a father for not equipping my daughter with enough moral values. I wish I could have done it, but I couldn't, I failed. From now on, we will be more careful for my other daughters."
