In Konya, a patient named M.A., who had intestinal issues, was allegedly asked for 17,000 TL for a laser device that would be used in surgery. General Surgery Specialist Dr. B.U. was arrested by the police and was detained after being brought before the court.
M.A., who has a bowel disorder in Konya, was detained by the police after it was alleged that General Surgery Specialist Dr. B.U. demanded 17,000 TL for the laser device he would use in the surgery.
On June 27, Friday, M.A. went to Konya Numune Hospital for an examination due to complaints of pain. The General Surgery Specialist Dr. B.U. stated that M.A. needed to undergo surgery. According to the allegation, Dr. B.U. said that he would perform the surgery on June 30 with a laser device he would bring from a private hospital and that the fee would be 20,000 TL. The patient and the doctor agreed on 17,000 TL.
REQUESTED CASH PAYMENT
M.A. underwent surgery at the hospital yesterday. After the surgery, when the patient's relatives stated that they would deposit 17,000 TL into the hospital's cash register, it was alleged that Dr. B.U. requested the money to be given to him in cash. Following this, the patient's relatives reported the matter to the hospital management. The hospital management also informed the police. Teams from the Konya Police Department's Smuggling and Organized Crime Division caught Dr. B.U. in the act while he was receiving the previously serial-numbered banknotes amounting to 17,000 TL from the patient's relatives. While a judicial investigation is ongoing regarding the incident, the Provincial Health Directorate also initiated an administrative investigation.
ARRESTED
General Surgery Specialist Dr. Bülent Uysal, who was detained on the allegation of receiving 17,000 TL for the laser device he would use in surgery from M.A., who has a bowel disorder in Konya, was arrested by the court to which he was brought.
