Nurse İkra Avcı, who participated in the 'hair braiding' action initiated by DEM Party deputies to protest the cutting of a woman's hair, reportedly a YPG member in Syria, announced that she was dismissed from her profession despite being acquitted in the 'making terrorist propaganda' case filed against her. Avcı, reacting to the decision in her statement on her social media account, said, 'I did not stay silent against a woman's murder. The price for me was my profession. May my right be forbidden to them.'

Nurse İkra Avcı, who took part in the "hair braiding" protest initiated by DEM Party deputies to react to the cutting of a woman's hair who was a YPG member in Syria, announced that she lost her job despite being acquitted in the "making terrorist propaganda" case filed against her. Avcı reacted to the decision in a statement on her social media account, saying, "May my rights be forfeited."

HAD PARTICIPATED IN THE HAIR BRAIDING PROTEST

After a female fighter's braid was cut and displayed in the city of Raqqa, Syria, the solidarity movement on social media where women braided their hair as a reaction also became a topic of discussion in Turkey. İkra Avcı, who works as a nurse in Kocaeli, also supported the protest, which spread through the calls of DEM Party deputies, by sharing a video of herself braiding her hair on her social media account.

"ORGANIZATION PROPAGANDA" CASE FILED AGAINST HER

Following Avcı's post, an administrative and judicial investigation was launched against her. Avcı, who was suspended from her duty for a period, was then tried on the charge of "making terrorist propaganda." Avcı, however, argued that her post was intended to react to violence against women and did not constitute a crime.

Within the scope of the process, Avcı was taken into custody, released under judicial control, and suspended from her duty.

ACQUITTED IN THE CASE

The judicial case filed against İkra Avcı concluded with an acquittal on May 21, 2026. Thus, Avcı was acquitted of the charge of "terrorist propaganda."

However, despite the judicial process ending, the administrative investigation continued. Avcı announced that the hospital where she worked requested her dismissal from the profession within the scope of the administrative investigation and stated that her lawyer would make the necessary objections to the decision.

"THE PRICE WAS MY PROFESSION"

In her latest statement, Avcı reacted to what she went through by announcing that she was dismissed from her job. Avcı, stating that she did not stay silent against femicides and violence against women, used the following expressions:

"I did not stay silent against a female murder. I braided my hair to react to the killing of women, violence, and femicides. The price for this was my profession for me. May my rights be forfeited..."

The process experienced by Avcı, who lost her job as a result of the administrative investigation despite being acquitted in the judicial case, came back to the agenda. It was also reported in June that the suspension decision had been extended for two more months.
