Social media influencer Oğuzhan Uğur, known for his support to the Ahbap Association during the February 6 earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş, was detained at his home in İstanbul Çekmeköy by Financial Crime units early in the morning on Friday, July 17. Alongside Oğuzhan Uğur, Gülgün Öztürk, Suzan Düşküner, Emir Taşar, Emre Kartaloğlu, Hüseyin Küçük, Fatih Eke, Muharrem Karataş, Ersin Gökgün, and Özgür Ömer Güner were also detained.
PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE STATEMENT BEGINS
The statement procedures at İstanbul Vatan Police Headquarters for Oğuzhan Uğur and the other suspects, who have been in custody since Friday morning, have been completed. The suspects, referred to the courthouse in the morning hours, have begun their statements at the prosecutor's office.
MONTHLY INCOME REVEALED
Oğuzhan Uğur disclosed his monthly income in his police statement. Maintaining that he has not committed any crime, Uğur stated that his monthly income is around 150,000 to 400,000 TL. Uğur noted that this earnings vary based on monthly advertisements and also stated that he has no assets registered in his name.
“I DON'T KNOW ANYONE FROM AHBAP ASSOCIATION EXCEPT HALUK LEVENT”
Uğur said he first met Haluk Levent when he hosted him on his program in 2018, and later they met in Hatay on February 7 and have not reunited since. Claiming he does not know anyone else from the Ahbap Association besides Haluk Levent, Uğur was reminded that he made posts related to the AHBAP Association during the February 6 earthquake, providing information that collected donations were transferred to the association's accounts, and was asked about the purpose of these posts and whether he received instructions from anyone. Stating that he did not receive instructions from anyone for the support posts, he said these support posts were not exclusive to the Ahbap Association and that they simultaneously made support posts for AFAD and KIZILAY.
"I DID NOT WITNESS ANY IRREGULARITY"
Oğuzhan Uğur stated that they estimate approximately 60 million TL was donated to the fundraising campaign during the earthquake, and he claimed that this estimate is based on figures noted from calls by people contacting them. Also noting that he has no suspicion that the donations to the Ahbap Association were used for purposes other than intended, Oğuzhan Uğur stated that he did not witness any irregularity.
INVESTIGATION AND ALLEGATIONS
The Istanbul Police Department Financial Crimes Branch, coordinated by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, conducted operations to prevent crimes including \"establishing an organization to commit crimes,\" \"qualified fraud,\" and \"laundering asset values derived from crime,\" and to apprehend suspects.
Previously, 18 suspects, including the association's founder Haluk Levent, were arrested. Additionally, within the scope of the investigation, assets of the association and some suspects were seized.
It is alleged that Levent bet 990 million lira with aid money, that 210 million lira received by the association was not recorded, and that irregularities occurred in some title deed transfers.
In statements reflected in the case file, a suspect named Sevda Kurt claimed that Haluk Levent caused her approximately 90 million lira in losses.
It was alleged that Kurt sent high amounts of money to accounts directed by Levent on different dates, and during a search at her address, a debt document for $1,750,000, said to be signed by Levent, was found.
Additionally, lawyer Ece Güner claimed in her statement that she lent Levent a total of $1,570,000 and that she received back most of this money.
