Beşiktaş's former football director Önder Özen spoke for the first time about the transfer process of Dany Nounkeu, who was transferred from Galatasaray. Özen stated that an agreement had been reached with Joleon Lescott from Manchester City, but he explained in detail why the transfer did not take place.
The behind-the-scenes story of the transfer of Dany Nounkeu, one of the most talked-about transfers of that period at the Super Lig giant Beşiktaş, has emerged. Beşiktaş's former football director Önder Özen made a statement years later on the VOLE YouTube channel, revealing unknown details about the Dany Nounkeu transfer.
'I AGREED WITH LESCOTT FROM CITY'
Önder Özen responded to a question about Dany Nounkeu's transfer process, stating that he actually agreed with Joleon Lescott, who was wearing the Manchester City jersey, for the center-back transfer and said, 'I will have to explain it now. While moving the house, I told my children, 'the documents will be kept, everything will go, but these will not go.' At the end of December, I agreed with Joleon Lescott, who played for Manchester City. Ahmet Nur Çebi was also with me. We have a photo of the three of us together.' he said.
'DANY CAME WHEN BILIC GOT INVOLVED'
Stating that he attended the organization held in Antalya for the Turkey Football Directors' meeting upon his return to Istanbul, Özen mentioned the cancellation process of the Lescott transfer and the Dany transfer, saying, "While I was at the meeting, Halil Yazıcıoğlu called me. 'Coach, Slaven Bilic wants Dany from Galatasaray,' he said. I asked, 'Where did that come from?' I got the response, 'The coach wants a quick center-back.' I said, 'We'll see,' and hung up. That's how the Dany transfer started." he expressed.
