Özgür Özel, who was removed from duty following the court's decision to cancel the CHP congress with a ruling of absolute nullity, appeared before the cameras. Özel is making statements live on air.
The Ankara Regional Court of Justice annulled the 38th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP) held in 2023, finding it unlawful. With the decision of "absolute nullity," Chairman Özgür Özel and the party administration were temporarily suspended from duty, and it was ruled that the duty should pass to the former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's administration. Following the decision, Özgür Özel convened the Central Executive Board (MYK). After the MYK meeting, Özel appeared before the cameras to make statements.
Highlights from Özgür Özel's statement are as follows:
"We said the CHP must change. When these words received backlash, we took on the task. We set out on a journey. At the start, they said we couldn't even be candidates. Throughout the campaign, we traveled province by province, sharing openly what we would do. They said you can't convince the delegates. We said we won't convince the delegate. The delegate's son, grandchild, spouse, or barber who sent them to the congress will convince them. When I spoke with our delegates, I said, 'Talk to your most trusted person before coming.' We trusted their conscience."
